The parents wept..

Today I went to the hospital to photograph a full term baby that passed away last Friday. I get called into the hospital to do this about 7 to 8 times a year. It is tough because the best thing to do is act as If the baby is still alive. You can’t get emotional or sentimental.

“She has beautiful toes..”
“Look at her hair..gorgeous…”

Bringing the baby in to see the parents for the first time is always tough for them. This time when I got there I learned that the mother hadn’t even held her child yet.

The parents were close together holding their child, Haylee, in their arms for the first time.

Mom: “It just isn’t fair….it isn’t fair!”

Dad: “I know…..I know..”

Mom: ” I’m just waiting for her to wake up..”

Dad: “I’m just waiting for her to open her eyes.”

I can’t imagine going through something like that. And in this situation this was their second loss. The first one was last February, their child was 14 weeks in the womb.

I held my own throughout photographing this family, but there were times when I almost lost it. The first time was when I was talking to the dad alone.

“I should have been there for her….I should have been there..”

The second time was when I was photographing the mother and Haylee alone. She was just crying so hard….

My heart goes out to those who have been in similar situations… I am so very sorry for you heartache….
